Phone haptics provide tactile feedback through a short vibration associated with a touch. An on-screen key does not physically travel downward, but its animation, sound, and tactile response can work together to suggest one button press.
Is haptic feedback different from vibration?
Haptics means communicating through touch; vibration is a way phones do that. A long notification buzz and a brief button response can differ in purpose and pattern without being entirely separate technologies.
Think of a notification as “pay attention” and a button response as “something happened just now.” When tapping repeatedly, notice whether each response has a clear ending.
Three parts of one tap
This is a conceptual breakdown, not a measured timeline. These are coordinated responses to an input, not three stages that must wait for one another.

Android's haptics design guidance recommends designing visuals, sound, and haptics together. Imagine an animation responding first and a vibration arriving noticeably later: the responses may feel disconnected.
Does stronger mean more realistic?
Strength alone does not describe the experience. Notice when the response starts, how long it continues, and how it ends. Try a slow single tap before comparing repeated taps.
A physical keyboard has key travel and resistance against your finger. A phone vibration does not reproduce those movements and forces. It is more useful to think of it as a tactile cue that accompanies your action.
Why can the same app feel different on another phone?
Hardware, supported effects, operating systems, and settings differ. Android's implementation overview specifically covers checking device support. One phone's response should not be treated as a measurement for every model.
If you cannot feel a response:
- Check the app's sound and vibration controls separately.
- Look for touch vibration or haptic settings on the device; labels vary.
- Check whether the behavior changed after changing power-saving or silent settings. Silent mode does not universally disable haptics.
- If it persists, note the device, OS, app version, and affected screen when contacting support.
These are troubleshooting steps, not a claim that every listed setting disables feedback on every phone.
